The team were proactive in their approach and came up with a solution that would ensure the work would go ahead; rain, hail or shine.

The customer

ElectraNet delivers safe, affordable and reliable solutions to power South Australian homes and businesses. Their transmission network is a crucial part of the electricity supply chain and is used to safely deliver electricity throughout South Australia including regional and remote areas. ElectraNet specialise in asset and project management, contract management and their clients include SA Power Networks, Enerven and large directly connected clients.

The opportunity

As part of Enerven's maintenance contract with ElectraNet, we perform routine substation maintenance. The transformers at Back Callington and Kanmantoo supply a number of customers, so generation must be supplied to these customers when maintenance is being performed at these substations. To perform these particular maintenance tasks, the weather conditions needs to be dry, however, the outage window secured was in winter; meaning it was nearly impossible to ensure dry conditions. The maintenance had previously been rescheduled due to outage windows being secured in unfavourable times of the year, meaning the maintenance was now well overdue.

The Enerven maintenance team were determined to get this work done in the outage window secured, so did some out of the box thinking to ensure this piece of work went ahead.

The solution

At Enerven our values are the DNA of our business; Collaborative, Dependable, Proactive. Our team embody our values and demonstrate them through their approach to their work and our customers.

A recent example of this was when one of our maintenance teams finally secured an outage window for some overdue transformer maintenance tasks. For the work to be done, conditions need to be dry; however the outage window secured was in July, making it nearly impossible to ensure dry conditions.

Rather than reschedule the task again, the team were proactive in their approach and came up with a solution that would ensure the work would go ahead; rain, hail or shine. In collaboration with our customer ElectraNet we implemented a tent to cover and encapsulate the transformer. This then connects to a ventilation system that removes the moisture from the air, allowing the planned work to go ahead. This type of solution has not been implemented before for this type of maintenance task and proved extremely successful for future projects. The team’s out of the box thinking clearly demonstrates why our customers depend on us to deliver their projects.
